Install Sophon Node

Node is a background service that turns a Windows, macOS, or Linux machine into an endpoint your assistant can act on. It holds one outbound connection to your Gateway; nothing listens for inbound traffic on the machine. Install it where the work needs to happen.

With the .NET runtime

dotnet tool install -g sophon-node

Requires the .NET 10 runtime on the machine. Upgrade with dotnet tool update -g sophon-node.

Without it

Self-contained, single-file builds bundle the runtime, so the machine needs nothing preinstalled. Published for the three platforms the release pipeline builds.

Node builds are not code-signed yet, so Windows and macOS will flag them as coming from an unidentified developer. Signing is on the roadmap; until then the SHA-256 above is the check that the file is the one we built.

Installing is only half of it. A Node does nothing until you pair it with a Gateway and approve that pairing in the Dashboard. Approving a device grants it a starting set of scopes. Shell execution is not one of them, and it raises a prompt on the machine’s own screen, showing the exact command, every time it is asked.

The node CLI is five verbs: pair, start, status, unpair and version.
